Currently on the nursery we are in the process of constructing a new car park! For 82 years the nursery relied on roadside parking and now we are pulling the nursery into the 21st century. There is presently off road parking by means of a 6 space car park, but the new car park will be 21 spaces located at the front of the nursery, the car park will be sunken down to help screen it and prevent the car park being an eye saw, to do this we have had to excavate 3000tonnes of soil to sink the area down to an appropriate depth, and around the edge of the car park will be a series of walls creating raised herbaceous borders planted up with a range or perennials, shrubs and small trees which in time will create the feel of driving into a secret garden. After many months of struggling with getting planning permission we got it passed in October and are now well on the way to starting building the walls which will use 60 tonne of stone (not just a weeks work!). However before we got to this point we have been faced with terrible drainage problems after hitting a seam of water which has caused to whole project to be delayed but not to be stopped! The new car park will be completed for summer 2010 however I must emphasise that we now have off-road parking so do not feel you have to wait till our new car park is open as there is adequate parking at present. Below are a few pictures to give you an idea of what we are currently working on and you will have to use your imagination to come up with an image of the finished article! This year its not just the car park that we have been focussing on as the nursery is beginning to look more like a nursery now as appose to the previous jungle that it somewhat resembled! Paths have been re-gravelled and frames filled with exciting young plants so if your only memory of visiting the nursery was regretting that you hadn't packed your machete along with your walking boots then you will be pleasantly surprised when you come and see the difference! Anyway we can only hope for a good winter ahead and we take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their support over this last year and we look forward to meeting customers old and new at the nursery! Regards John Foley
